It's easy to find your perfect shoe size - right from home!
Quick, easy and accurate – how to measure your feet correctly
Shopping online is wonderfully convenient – but when it comes to shoe sizes, uncertainty often sets in. With our simple step-by-step guide, you'll find the right size for our shoes or cosy slippers in no time. You probably already have everything you need at home!
What you need for the perfect measurement
- A sheet of A4 paper (or larger)
- A pencil or pen
- A ruler or tape measure
- A flat, hard surface (no carpet!)
Optional: A second person to help with drawing
How to measure your shoe size correctly – step by step
-
- Grab an A4 sheet of paper, a pencil and a ruler.
- Stand barefoot on the paper – ideally in a standing position with your full body weight on your feet. Important: stand up straight and distribute your weight evenly across both feet, just as you would normally stand.
- Draw a line along your heel and longest toe. Keep the pencil perpendicular to the paper.
- The line at the heel should be drawn at the furthest point of the heel.
- Repeat the process with the other foot. Even if your feet look the same, they usually aren't! A small difference in size is completely normal.
- Now measure the distance between the two lines. Write down the result in centimetres with one decimal place (e.g. 24.3 cm).
Compare the larger of the two lengths with our Giesswein size chart. Our professional tip: For half sizes, we recommend choosing the larger size. It is better to have a little extra room than to be too tight.
Avoid common measurement errors
Do not measure on carpet: soft surfaces distort the result. Always use a hard, flat surface such as tiles or parquet flooring.
Do not measure while sitting: when sitting, the foot does not bear the full weight of the body and is therefore narrower and shorter than when standing.
When should you measure your feet?
When is the best time to buy or try on shoes? In the afternoon or early evening! Your feet swell slightly during the day and then reach their ‘true’ size. This ensures that your shoes will still be comfortable at the end of a long day. In the morning, your feet are often slightly smaller – shoes that fit perfectly in the morning may be too tight in the evening.
