Whether it’s a leisurely hike, a demanding trekking tour, or a sporty trail run, time in the mountains means movement, fresh air, and experiencing nature. To enjoy your tour as comfortably as possible, it’s worth taking a look at your gear. Choosing the right shoes, in particular, can help you move safely and comfortably across different surfaces.

Depending on the route and use case, the requirements for an outdoor shoe differ. While stability and comfort take center stage on longer hikes, trail running calls for a direct ground feel and great grip. We’ll introduce two models developed for different mountain adventures.

What makes a good outdoor shoe?

A suitable outdoor shoe supports you on all kinds of terrain—from well-maintained hiking paths to challenging ground. Several factors play an important role:

  • reliable traction on a variety of surfaces

  • comfortable wear even over long periods

  • breathable materials for a balanced foot climate

  • good cushioning to reduce impact over many steps

  • durable construction for use in the outdoors

Which model suits you best depends primarily on how and where you plan to go.

Two companions for your time in the mountains

Wool Trek X – for hikes, trekking, and an active everyday life

If you love hiking, go on longer trekking tours, or want a versatile outdoor shoe, the Wool Trek X was developed precisely for these use cases.

The upper material is water-repellent yet breathable. For long-lasting water-repellent properties, we recommend regular reproofing. Inside, Merino wool ensures a pleasantly regulated foot climate. It supports a balanced feel at different temperatures and naturally helps prevent odors.

The quick-lace system is also practical on the go. With just one motion, you can adjust the fit without having to tie long laces. The padded tongue further enhances wearing comfort.

A premium VIBRAM® outsole provides secure footing on various surfaces. In combination with the lightweight EVA midsole and the cushioning removable insole, it creates a comfortable walking experience—both on hiking trails and in everyday life.

Suitable for:

  • Hiking

  • Trekking

  • Outdoor activities

  • Leisure

Wool Trail X – when hiking path and trail blend into one

Do you like to move athletically or prefer a variety of trails? Then the Wool Trail X offers features specifically developed for trail running and demanding hikes.

The combination of Merino wool, 3D knit technology, and breathable materials creates a pleasant foot climate. At the same time, the construction supports a natural running feel with direct ground feedback.

The waterproof design protects in wet conditions. TPU reinforcements at the toe, upper, and lacing increase stability on uneven terrain. An EVA midsole supports running comfort even over longer distances.

For secure grip, this model also uses an original VIBRAM® outsole with Megagrip compound and deep lugs. It offers strong traction on a wide range of surfaces—for example, on rock, forest floor, mud, or loose gravel. A reflective logo further improves visibility in low-light conditions.

Thanks to the practical heel pull tab, the shoe is easy to put on and take off.

Suitable for:

  • Trail running

  • fast-paced hiking

  • challenging mountain tours

  • varied terrain

Which shoe fits your adventure?

Both models rely on the natural properties of Merino wool and a premium VIBRAM® outsole. Which shoe suits you better depends primarily on your intended use.

The Wool Trek X is particularly suitable for classic hikes, trekking tours, and anyone looking for a versatile outdoor shoe. The Wool Trail X is aimed at those who like to move athletically and run or hike on trails or in demanding terrain.

The mountains offer countless ways to be active—from relaxed hikes to challenging trail adventures. With a shoe that meets your needs, you can fully focus on the nature experience.

Whether the versatile Wool Trek X or the sporty Wool Trail X—both models combine the functional properties of Merino wool with a grippy VIBRAM® sole and are designed for different outdoor uses. This way you’ll find the companion that best suits your next adventure in the mountains.

What do our customers say?

Wool Trail X Women - Product meets my expectations; comfortable to wear, warm, and weatherproof; although I already own several Giesswein shoes, this one ran one size small; the exchange worked perfectly;
Thomas — ★★★★★

The Wool Trail X Men is the best hiking shoe I’ve ever had. It’s suitable for city walks, soccer games, gardening, as well as long hikes in the low and high mountains. I used it for a hike in South Tyrol (e.g., day tour Selva di Val Gardena - Vallunga - Puez Hut - Puez Peak - Gardena High Trail - Selva, not the easiest hike, steep ascents and descents on narrow paths and a longer heavy rain shower). Really good grip, no slipping. Waterproof. The only downside: the shoelaces come undone fairly often.
