Woolwalk: production and advantages of our high-performance fabric
Wool is an impressive natural material that has great properties from the ground up. These are further enhanced by the fulling process. The result is a dense, soft and particularly durable fabric that is ideal for our high-quality products.
BUT HOW IS THE GIESSWEIN WALK FABRIC ACTUALLY MADE?
WOOLWALK STEP 1: SELECTING THE YARN
Generally, fulling fabric is made from wool or wool blends. However, the quality of the woollen wool is already determined by the selection of the base material. Therefore, only the finest yarn qualities make it into our production.
WOOLWALK STEP 2: KNITTING
The next step is to knit with these yarns. To avoid cramped or even numb fingers, knitting machines do this for us. Different stitches and patterns are produced depending on the product requirements. We have developed a special knitting technique for our unique "3D Stretch Merino Wool". It increases the flexibility of the merino wool and makes it very comfortable to wear.
WOOLWALK STEP 3: WALKING
Now for the most delicate process. As with roasting the perfect steak, the right temperature and cooking time are crucial here. The knitted piece is washed in large machines by our experienced employees. This process roughens the surface and creates numerous air spaces. The fulling fabric is now much softer, more durable and can store heat even better. We only use clear water without any additives for the fulling process. This allows us to reuse up to 90% of the water in production.
WOLLWALK STEP 4: FINISHING
Finally, the woollen wool must be dried and further processed. There are various options for finishing: For example, the right thickness is achieved by steaming the woollen fabric. The reaming machine or "wool softening machine", as we call it, makes the high-quality fabric even cosier.
This is how we create our high-performance woollen fabric, the "3D Stretch Merino Wool", from high-quality wool.
THE ADVANTAGES OF WOOLLEN WOOLLEN FABRIC
The natural basic properties of wool are further enhanced by the fulling process. As a result, the fulling fabric is:
Durable
Breathable
Windproof
Dirt and water repellent
Heat insulating
Crease-resistant
GIESSWEIN 3D STRETCH MERINO WOOL
Through years of experience, we have found a way to produce our fabrics even higher quality and softer. The specially developed knitting and fulling technique of the "3D Stretch Merino Wool" gives the merino wool more flexibility and comfort. The stretch fabric can stretch in all transverse and longitudinal directions and therefore adapts perfectly to your body. This is how we create products with an exceptionally comfortable feel in our production facility in Tyrol/Austria.
